What size ADU fits best in Los Angeles, California backyards?

I’m trying to figure out the best ADU size for my backyard in Los Angeles, California. My yard isn’t huge, and I want to make sure it feels spacious but still practical. Has anyone built an ADU here and found a perfect fit for a small to medium backyard?

From my experience, it really depends on how much of your yard you want to keep open versus how much living space you need. I ended up going with a mid-sized ADU, which felt just right for my lot without making the backyard feel cramped. It also helped to visualize furniture and storage inside before committing. Overall, choosing a size that balances comfort and outdoor space is key.
